what is rutin extract?

Rutin is a polyphenol (flavonoid compound), which is also known as vitamin P or rutin, and belongs to the flavonol glycosides widely found in plants. The two glycosides are glucose and rhamnose. Appearance is light yellow or light green crystalline powder. Can be extracted from many plants and fruits, most citrus fruits, buckwheat and green tea. Like all flavonoids, it also has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that cleanse blood vessels, improve circulation, and relieve arthritis symptoms.

The role of rutin

1. Anti-cancer and anti-tumor

Studies have found that flavonoids mainly play an anti-cancer and anti-tumor role through three ways, namely, anti-free radicals, direct inhibition of cancer cell growth, and anti-carcinogenic factors. The structure-activity relationship (SAR) study of the anti-cancer and anti-tumor pharmacological effects of flavonoids shows that the anti-cancer and anti-tumor effects of flavonoids are closely related to their anti-oxidation and anti-free radical effects, and the strength of anti-free radicals is affected by their structure;
2. Anti-cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases

Rutin has the effect of dilating blood vessels and can improve the systolic and diastolic functions of myocardial smooth muscle. Its mechanism of action is related to flavonoids regulating the inflow of Ca2+ outside the smooth muscle cell membrane and the release of Ca2+ inside the cell. Preliminary studies on methylflavonol methanoate (MFA) have shown that: MFA has anti-experimental arrhythmia, anti-experimental myocardial infarction and anti-experimental thrombosis, and can inhibit the contraction of abdominal aorta and smooth muscle caused by potassium and calcium.

3. Anti-inflammatory pain effect

The anti-inflammatory experiment found that the C-5 and C-7 positions of flavonoids and flavanone A rings have the strongest anti-inflammatory activity. The lipophilicity of flavonoids may be the main factor affecting the anti-inflammatory effect.

4. Antibacterial and antiviral

Studies have shown that flavonoids have hydroxyl groups at C-5 and C-7, and at the same time C-2 and C-3 are linked by double bonds, they have the activity of inhibiting HV virus; if there is a halogen substitution on the B ring, it will increase Toxicity of flavonoids and decreased antiviral activity.

5. Anti-oxidation and anti-aging

Experiments have shown that flavonoids, such as rutin, tea polyphenols, and quercetin, have anti-aging effects. When studying its structure-activity relationship, it was found that the ability of polyhydroxy flavonoids to scavenge free radicals is relatively strong, and the phenolic hydroxyl groups at C-5 and C-7 are necessary for their activity. Metal complexation; when the C-7 hydroxyl group has strong acidity, it can improve the ability to scavenge free radicals.
